Neel Preet: What inspired you to write Metamorphose and create this unique concept of transformation?

Tanya Walia: It started as a simple competition for me. I was given a prompt to write a futuristic vampire story. The results were never declared but it gave me the story of a lifetime.

Neel Preet: How did you come up with the idea of a competition between humans and vampires?

Tanya Walia: Thats the irony, since I was in a competition, I wanted to write about a competition.

Neel Preet: Which character in the book is closest to your heart and why?

Tanya Walia: Seneca. My heart went out to her while writing her story. She is the most honest and sweet character.

Neel Preet: How much time did it take you to complete this book?

Tanya Walia: From writing the book to getting it published, it took me 3 whole years. The writing part was done in 6 months but I never felt it was the right time to bring it out, up until now.

Neel Preet: Did you face any challenges while writing this story?

Tanya Walia: Focusing equally on 8 characters at once and weaving their background story and then merging them into the now was my biggest challenge. Sometimes, I used to find the voices and dialogues too much to handle.

Neel Preet: The world of 3030 is very detailed. How did you plan and imagine this future setting?

Tanya Walia: When I write any book I let my imagination run wild. I let my inner child completely take over and just write what she feels right. It wasn’t planned but more go with the flow.

Neel Preet: How do you balance fantasy elements with real human emotions in your writing?

Tanya Walia: It was because from a young age I was fascinated by the mysteries of the world. I always believed that these creatures lived among us like normal human beings. That’s why it was easy for me to imagine them as being human.

Neel Preet: What message do you want readers to take from Metamorphose?

Tanya Walia: You don’t need an external physical or situational transformation to turn around your life, like the characters in the book believed. What you need is the inner transformation of the soul, to be satisfied with what you are and then deal with the situation with a different perspective.

Neel Preet: Electra is a very strong and relatable character. What inspired her personality?

Tanya Walia: Electra’s personality was actually inspired by Alexander. While he is silent ,brooding and burdened by his past. She is lively, fun and optimistic even when faced with a heavy past. Only a polar opposite personality could make him come out of his shell.

Neel Preet: How do your interests in mystic arts and oracle reading influence your writing?

Tanya Walia: My writing style is mostly intuitional. I don’t make plans and write down every character in detail. I let the characters take over my mind and they write their own stories.

Neel Preet: Among all the competition tasks in the book, which one was your favourite to write?

Tanya Walia: The one where they were left to navigate out of the jungle. That task gave the book the right direction and structure.

Neel Preet: How do you manage your career as a banker along with writing novels?

Tanya Walia: I think of my career as a way to fuel my passion for writing. My career is what gives me the confidence to continue writing and its a great way to meet different personalities and incorporate them into my characters.

Neel Preet: What kind of books or authors inspire you the most?

Tanya Walia: Mainly fantasy fiction novels that incorporates the mystic elements of the real life.

Neel Preet: Can readers expect a sequel or continuation of this story?

Tanya Walia: No, I never planned for a sequel.

Neel Preet: What advice would you like to give to new writers who want to start their journey?

Tanya Walia: Put those doubts away and start writing. Even if it is simple, even when no one appreciates it, don’t bother. Don’t wait for people’s approval. Somewhere in this world there is a reader waiting for your book.
